Thank you - and a brief trip report/update

Just wanted to thank all of you for all of your help, and give a brief trip report (it won’t be exciting).

So - really, everything outside of my phone issues has been great.

I love Tunbridge Wells - the Pantiles is a fun place to just hang out at, and it’s a neat town even beyond that, at least what I’ve seen

I’ve been shopping at Saimsbury’s, made a pit stop at Morrison’s and, today, took a bus to Dunorlan Park, which is gorgeous.

Yesterday I had a Sunday roast for lunch - which was delicious - it will not be my last. The rhubarb pavlova for dessert was sooo good - I just can’t find pavlovas or meringue desserts in the States

Can I just say how much I love that baked potatoes for lunch is a thing? I’m having one now with Coronation Chicken - soooo good

I also had my first steak & ale pie - which I bought at the butchers and heated at home - yum!

I’ve booked a cream tea train ride on the Spa & Valley steam RR, so that will be fun.

Between now and when I leave for Bath (4 nights) on the 13th, I’m likely to go to either Hever Castle, and either Sissinghurst or someplace else..not sure

I will update further as there’s stuff to report

Thanks!

Claudia, thanks! I just finished spending time in Dunorlan Park - I can’t remember the last time I did something like that; it’s gorgeous. Next time I want to rent one of those boats you pedal!

James and Helen - right? And, it’s the kind of weather I love - cool, clear, refreshing. I don’t get that in Florida most of the year - it’s what I miss most about New York

Thank you!

Betsy - if you have access to a TV - you might like Portillo's new series of rail journeys which this week is ‘The Weald’ - which I think is the area where you are now located. It is on BBC 2 at 6.30 (to 7pm) weekdays. Normally channel 2 or 102 in HD.

James, I saw that on the guide on the tv. But I missed it …I love any show about trains, and rail journeys, & I don’t want to miss this one

Thanks!!

Betsy, you think the weather is cool?! This is summer for us! I’m in my linens, I’ve had a bbq and I even picked up a bit of sunburn reading in the garden earlier.

LOL I don’t doubt it!

I feel like the UK’s weather is similar to the NorthEast in the US - for all that people rhapsodize about Spring, it can be rainy and cold, and occasionally snowy! If we had this weather in NY in early April, we’d be celebrating! Heck, if we had this in Florida at any time, I’d be celebrating - but almost everyone else would be bundled up, lol

Today was magnificent - I only started to get cold later in the afternoon while waiting for the taxi.

These are not the temperatures that Britain would experience under similar high pressure if it were summer. If it were June, July or August, the temperatures would be up in the 20C’s or low 30C’s. The peaks today are in the high teens but some sheltered spots in the west could hit the low 20’s. However, the sunlight is strong and sun protection lotion application would be wise.

It seems to me that the climate is more severe in the NE USA than in Britain with colder and more snowy winters and a greater chance of heatwaves in summer.

Normal changeable weather is expected to resume next week.

I am old enough to remember travelling on the Spa Valley railway not long before it's closure as part of the National rail network.

James, I’m glad you reminded me of sun screen - that was one of the things I figured I buy here ….I’ve just been wearing my baseball cap, but as I’m very fair skinned, with freckles, I need more …

New England in terms of the snow? Or parts of NY? That’s true - there’s much more snow in winter. But spring is just as changeable as it is in the UK, even if possibly more extreme. It’s really just often not pleasant

And I’m prepared!

What a shame it was closed down …thankfully wonderful volunteers allow these trains to keep running

Today I did the Spa Valley steam train cream tea ride, which was lovely (and delicious). I just wish ut was longer, lol

Tonight: either a bowl of cereal for dinner or a full meal of prawn cocktail and roast chicken crisps, lol. My mind is going to be blown when I try them, lol

BTW- In North Yorkshire Moorsbus have now confirmed that operations will start on 3 May for the season. Timetables, which will vary from last year are to be issued soon.
