Seems that journeys from LHR to zone 1 is going to be charged at peak fare, regardless of the time of travel. Also the deposit for Oyster Card deposit/charge is increasing from £5 to £7.
It was bound to happen. £2 extra each way isn’t going to break the bank. Thanks for the information.
Sure as travelers, £2 isn't going to break the bank. But we are tending to splurge and such are minor costs in the scheme of things.
But we travelers often fail to take into consideration how seemingly minor increases actually affect the local fee user or tax payer -- the ones that tend to foot the bill.
The £7 charge for an Oyster card will no longer be refundable at all.

Since so many people use contactless, perhaps this is transiting away from Oyster Cards and more towards using contactless payment via card or phone.
NYC is doing the same thing. A new payment system where Metrocards will be unnecesary.
They have been discouraging it for some time and there are a few stations where a contactless card is required. One of the few remaining things they can't do is account for Railcard discounts.
This means the Off Peak fare with Oyster with Rail Card discount is more than doubled to Heathrow from Zone 1?
Edit
Just checked with TFL fare finder, shows Off Peak Fare with Oyster with Senior Rail Card discount at £3.65 . So giving discount on Peak fare for Off Peak travel
..
The real budget conscious should take a free journey to Hatton Cross, tap out, then tap in again for Z5-Z1 fare of £3.40. An alternative is to tap out / in at Earls Court where you could be changing anyway for £4.40. Use a different card to make sure the journeys aren't combined.
Marco i had the same thought
Before with Senior RailCard discount the journey Off Peak only cost about £2.35
Take bus to Hayes and Harlington or West Drayton, and catch the Elizabeth line train there. The bus fare will still count towards the daily cap. Both stations are now accessible.
