Tennis talk-Wimbledon!

It looks like a lovely day in London today.

Apparently Roger Federer made a big splash by showing up in Uniqlo instead of Nike, or so the commentators said. Why they choose to focus on that instead of the match is beyond me. . . .

Lol! The media always seems to focus on what women wear, so I am always glad to see the tables turned. He looks amazing in whatever brand he wears! ❤️❤️

What stunned us is that ESPN barely showed Roger's first round match popping in here and there instead of staying with it as they always have done at Wimbledon.

Nike is a MAJOR ESPN sponsor. This year, Roger's opening match as last year's winner and the #1 seed did not nearly get the same amount of air time as a Roger Federer match does particularly at Wimbledon. Looks like Nike is calling the shots to ESPN at least in the early rounds. They don't want ESPN cameras on Roger in the Uniqlo logo front and center so quickly? Roger still shoves his feet in Nike footwear afterall. LOL

Andy Murray -- this is his third time in under a year (Flushing, Melbourne, London) that he has arrived at a major but has had to announce his withdrawal. When he said he didn't think he could play 5 set matches, I felt terrible for him. At least he gave a lucky loser an opportunity in the main draw.

And you andrew.reis need to direct your snarky remarks elsewhere.

And here I thought great tennis stars were admired for their tennis play, not for what they wear. Silly me. I love watching the tennis tournaments (all of them) and admire good players. I have never given a whit for what they wore.

Nancy, you are not silly! It is the focus on what Roger is wearing that is silly. But the connection with ESPN sponsorship may explain it.

We have been to three majors (US, Australian, and French Open) but have only been able to see Roger in practice sessions. Still pure poetry in movement.

A friend of ours is in the tournament and is playing his match right now. Won his first set, lost in the second. They are on serve in the third. Go Taro!

Interesting to read ESPN’s take on the matter. It is a ten-year contract, whether he plays or not. I hope he keeps playing as long as he can, but will understand when he retires to spend more time with his family.

I actually bought Uniqlo jeans and a down jacket recently, for our next trip to Switzerland. They are very reasonably priced (actually so inexpensive I hope they hold up) and fit a small woman very well. (I am below the size range of many American brands).

The downside is they do not do free returns by mail if something does not fit. So I returned things to the store, and found it pretty unpleasant, with bright lights and colors, and loud music. Definitely aimed at a youthful clientele!

That is one HECK of a contract Roger got with Uniqlo. Novak wore their clothing a few years ago; he no longer does. I suspect Novak's agent wasn't able to secure the platinum-mine contract that Roger's agent (aka Mary Joe Fernandez's husband) did. With the Summer Olympics in Japan, I'm guessing Uniqlo wants to make a splash. Again, just guessing.

Go Taro! I like this game!

Look what I saw on the RS trip agenda for the Best of London tour that starts July 8:

Jul 8–Jul 14 (Su–Sa)$2,395 + Air Opportunity to attend Wimbledon
during free time!

WOW! I love this!! What a perk of that specific tour date that it includes an optional Wimbledon session!

Nancy, they're on TV and their sport is a business.
Most understand this quite well.

Apparently my sarcasm fell on deaf ears.

If not on deaf ears, then on near sighted eyes.
