Ted Lasso fans, here. Thank you for this. We'll be watching. My husband and I just returned from England and will be looking for sights to reminisce. We are also soccer fanatics.

Hi Rebecca,
We too just returned. That pub is The Prince's Head, which is ground zero within the most attractive corner of Richmond's famed Village Green--many feel it is the best such 'Green' in London. The other close-by pub in that cosy corner is The Cricketeers (not to be confused with the privately-owned one with that identical name in Kew). Richmond's renown historical theatre is just a minute up the same road, as is the village's Little Green. Combined with the surrounding history (i.e. Maids of Honour Row), it all makes for a pleasant place to visit.
I am done. The relocation fantasy.

Janis and Mardee, you're welcome!

I'm glad there's some interest here in the program.

Gregg, you're right about Richmond being lovely. One of the houses near The Green belongs to Sir David Attenborough, and he is frequently seen sitting on a bench there.

Another feature to look for when one goes to Richmond is the old gatehouse of a long-vanished palace. Richmond Palace was built by Henry VII (father of Henry the 8th) and was his home until he died there in 1509.
The palace looked a great deal like Hampton Court Palace and was a favorite residence of the Tudors.
Elizabeth I died there in 1603.
The palace was sold by Parliament after the death of Charles I in 1649 and demolished, with the stones used to build other buildings around London.

The buildings left from the old palace are the Wardrobe, Trumpeters' House and the Gate House.
Only the gatehouse can be seen from the road without trespassing on the property.
It is on the southwest side of Richmond Green.
The distinctive Tudor red brick and Tudor architecture makes it easy to spot.

Hey Pam, I hope you enjoy the show. I will be binge-watching Ted Lasso on Roku this afternoon to look at some of the scenery and prepare for "60 Minutes" tonight.

Rebecca, we just watched the 1st and 2nd seasons. I liked the 1st season better and found the 2nd to the last and 3rd to the last episodes of the 2nd season a bit more dark and depressing. I am looking forward to Season 3.

Rebecca, I did not know that about Attenborough's residence. We are among the many who regard him as a genuine hero. Another person whom I admire with a London Address (if only part of the year) is musician Geddy Lee. Don't know where his London mansion is located but am curious after having become refamiliarized with the city's map. I would never attempt to visit any celebrity homes, as some apparently have done with say, Jimmy Page's historic home in Hammersmith. It just feels unseemly that any traveler would be so inclined (shudders).
Hope that you enjoy the 60 Mins episode--we've seen it and it was a good one.
I am done. The end.

We spent several days around the Richmond Green a few years ago so imagine our surprise and delight to discover familiar scenes and lanes when we started watching Ted Lasso. We’ll be back in Richmond in August and hope for more walks and adventures.

Pam, you are way ahead of me with the Ted Lasso episodes!
I'm doing a bit of catching up today.

Gregg, Sir David Attenborough is one of our heroes, too. We've enjoyed his programs for years, especially "Blue Planet" about the oceans and sea life. He is a wonderful environmental activist and he certainly does point out what we have to lose because of climate change.

Mona, I'm glad you will get back to see Richmond again on your next visit. Lovely area with lots of restaurants. Do be sure and read Claudia's ongoing trip report thread--she's there now for several weeks.

We plan to go to Richmond when we’re in London in October and look forward to 60 Minutes tonight. We’re eagerly awaiting the next season of Ted Lasso.

Andrea, glad to hear you are getting in a trip to England in the fall. We will be in England this fall and will be visiting Richmond. We're looking forward to watching tonight, too.

Rebecca, we will actually be in England twice, in September for 1.5 weeks (last 4 nights in London), then 3 weeks later we go back to London for 9 nights in mid-late October and fly home from there. We’ve been to London twice before but there’s always more to see. When will you be there?

Thank you, Rebecca, for posting about the 60 Minutes episode! Big fans of Ted Lasso here.

We will be in London next weekend and will probably check out Richmond – sounds like a lovely area we are unfamiliar with. And I didn't know that they actually filmed the exterior scenes in Richmond (I know the team is AFC Richmond, but I figured they just found an alley and green somewhere in London for filming). Thanks for the info about pubs, the green, etc.!

Andrea, I have sent you a PM.

Laura, some of the filming is done in a studio nearby. They've built a replica of the outside of the pub and its street there. The star mentions this in the 60 Minutes episode. I hope you do get to take a trip to Richmond next time you're in London.

Laura in Richmond right now. The Richmond Green is lovely. You’ll also find the nearby Cricketeers pub if you visit The Prince’s Head pub. Imagine they are doing booming business because of the show.

If you want a charming and quieter gem of a pub try the Angel and The Crown down the Church Walk.

I just enjoyed pizza and a cocktail at my Richmond local ( local being the term used for your preferred neighborhood pub), The Mitre. Visited with Rudi the sweetest ever pub dog. Easy stroll to home where I’m staying.

Alas, tomorrow is my last day, fly home Monday.
Been another pleasant visit but I will admit the heat has been a challenge. So prefer my November sojourns to London.

Rebecca and Claudia – thank you both for the info! We are excited about Richmond. And Claudia, I've been enjoying your trip reports in 'real time'. Sounds like you just escaped the heat wave! I'm so glad we postponed our trip from this week to next week – although now we have rail strikes to deal with. But we were going to rent/hire a car this time anyway, as we'll be staying in a tiny town in Northamptonshire! So I think we'll be okay, and won't roast, either. (Our preference is November and December, but this opportunity fell into our lap after a UK work trip last month, so ... why not ;-) )

I think it's cool that they filmed the exteriors in Richmond. Since I knew the team was fictitious**, I just assumed the exterior shots were done at some random, quintessential London-y place, not in actual Richmond (since we'd never been there and seen the green, etc.). It really adds to our enjoyment of the series!

** my brother has been a football fanatic since the 1970s, following the Bundesliga, the British leagues, etc. If anyone wants to watch the (real life) ups and downs of a football team, "Sunderland 'Til I Die" (Netflix) is compelling viewing. My brother can't watch, b/c as a soccer/football player and coach, it's too emotional for him.

David Attenborough's brother, Richard (actor - The Great Escape, The Sand Pebbles, Dr. Doolitle, Jurassic Park ; and director - Ghandi (Oscar winner)) is buried at St. Mary Magdalene church in the center of Richmond.
