I will be visiting some of the Cotswolds villages with a tour ending up in Stow on the Wold. I would like to reserve a taxi from Stow to get to Chipping Camden because I will be staying in the Cotswolds longer. Could someone please recommend a taxi service with the name and email address and/or phone number? Also, how soon should I reserve, if I am there in early June? Thank you.
do you know what time your tour will get to Stow on the Wold? Will you have your luggage with you?
I would need a taxi in Stow at approximately 4:00 PM on June 13 and will have 1 carryon suitcase and a tote bag.
I am sure some of the more knowledgeable UK folks will respond with a name or two, however, if they don’t bring forth a name, I will provide a back up idea. Upon arrival in Stow, head to a pub, have a couple of ales and ask around. The bartender or patrons will grab their cell and make some calls for you and you will eventually get to Chipping Camden. We spent a week in the Cotswolds sans car and hiked and hiked and relied on buses and an occasional taxi as needed and it worked all the time. Good luck and have fun.
Most smaller towns/villages in the UK have a taxi service. Sometimes it is based in a nearby larger town and services the smaller villages nearby, but either whichway, you can just google “Stow on the Wold taxi” or similar and Bob’s your uncle!
Go to the following website and put in for your journey and it will tell you that it can be done by local buses via a change at Moreton-in-Marsh.https://www.traveline.info
This is a good case where public transport in the Cotswolds works well-
the #801 bus runs hourly (two hourly on a Sunday) on it' s Cheltenham to Chipping Norton via Moreton in Marsh railway station journey- on a weekday the first service from Stow is as early as 0533, and the last from Moreton in the Marsh at 2040.
The ride is 15 minutes and costs £3 this year.
From Moreton in Marsh to Chipping Campden use bus #1 bound for Stratford on Avon at 1725 or 1845 (an extra 1803 from Stow on the Wold makes that connection)- the 1725 takes 50 minutes as it runs via Broadway, the 1845 takes 30 minutes as it runs direct
Another £3 ride.
My husband and I used Cotswold Executive Cabs last summer. Lovely husband and wife team run the business. They were very quick to respond. They have a website: www.cotswoldexecutivecabs.uk. The website lists their services and contact information.
Thanks to all of you for your helpful advice. I appreciate the information everyone has provided. I am all set now that I know my options. I just want to add one more thing - someone from another taxi service suggested trying Stow on the Wold Taxi so I called and they said that calling them one day before would be fine. It will be a very short distance between the villages. Since I will be in London three days before June 13, I can call them sometime during that time.
You can have the place you staying at book you a taxi.
Of course, re:a hotel getting the taxi for me. However, in this instance I am not staying in a hotel just visiting Stow for a short time. Thank you for your reply.
