Taxi from Southampton to Gatwick airport

Leaving Southampton cruise port next month about 7 a.m. Going to Gatwick airport to catch a flight at noon. Need a reliable taxi service to get to the airport on time for check-in, security, etc. Can't use the ship's shuttle bus (too late) or train or National Express coach. Need to keep things as simple as possible. Some website ads are fraudulent. Please help if you have some experience.

There are plenty local taxi firms in Southampton that will offer fixed price fares, if you google this. Cost c £100.

The main issue you are going to have is the short time that you have given yourself to get between destinations. Departing Southampton at 7am means that you are going to get stuck in traffic, unless you are travelling at the weekend. Without any traffic holdups, this is over a 1 hour 30 journey. Peak period, this could almost double. If you are checking in for a transatlantic flight, it is a 3 hour checkin. It could be tight.......

Olga,

I see the anxiety in your post. You've been around here for a few years, and I see that you have used Southampton before. Is it your experience that if you dock at 7, you are able to get in a car at 7?

I used to use Southampton every year or two but that has been a few years.

I think you may have painted yourself into a corner on this one. Is there a Plan B?

We recently used Canterbury Airport Transfers for a similar situation were very pleased with the service, ease of booking, and the price. One of the things we liked was that we could wait and pay the fee at the end of the journey. Although they are based in Canterbury, they do transfers from the Southampton cruise port to Gatwick. Send an email to [email protected] and describe your particular needs. You should get an estimate fairly quickly.

Thanks for all the advice. Does anyone know if there are airport taxis available for hire at the Southampton ocean terminal as one leaves the ship upon early disembarkation at about 7 a.m.?

It makes absolutely no sense to pay for a taxi to travel 100 miles from Canterbury for a Southampton pick up! Ditto Brighton.

A regular local taxi will not take you to Gatwick without being prebooked.

Yes for an airport transfer you need to pre-book either with a company local to your pick up, or alternatively local to the airport. The former is more likely to be cheaper but not always.

I greatly appreciate all of the responses - for the time and effort each answer reflects. I will prebook and prepay a local airport taxi service and hope that all will go smoothly when we leave the ship.
