Taxi from Salisbury to Stonehenge

Hello Happy Wanderers,

My husband and I will be arriving in London one week from now. Whew! I spoke with a friend that said they had opted to take a taxi from Salisbury (train station) to Stonehenge when they traveled there 6 years ago. It appears that, presently, taking a taxi will save time - as the buses (although routinely available and less expensive) depart only once an hour.

Has anyone had any recent experience taking a taxi from Salisbury to Stonehenge? If so...
- How much does it generally cost?

- Is there a preferred taxi/ride share company to go with?

- If we go the taxi route to Stonehenge, is it possible to return to Salisbury via bus?

To answer the last question you can return by bus, but it's the same hourly service, and there are no sing!e fares on the tourist bus so you will have to pay the full £20 return price,

Also you will pay the full admission price of £25, not the reduced bus price of £19.
There are also normal service buses back for £3 per person but only at 1154 and 1354, Monday to Saturday.

To expand a bit, if you take the 20 minutes past the hour train from Waterloo you arrive at Salisbury 85 minutes later at 45 minutes past the hour. You are then straight out and onto the bus which leaves on each hour.
There is a taxi rank at the station. Stonehenge is a 9.4 mile journey away, and this is the rate card for Wiltshire which a taxi has to adhere to- https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/media/1124/Tariff-Card/pdf/Tariff-card.pdf?m=637109798905070000

So the daytime tariff is £3.60 flag drop, plus £2.50 per mile. You'll be paying the dead mileage back to Salisbury, so £3.60 + (19 *£2.50)= £51.10, then excess bus fare on the way back.
