Could anyone venture a guesstimate of the one way taxi cost between Heathrow Terminal 5 and Windsor Castle? Also, when returning to Heathrow, is it obvious where to get a taxi at the Castle or could that be difficult? I’m reluctant to take public transportation due to time constraints and the possibility of strike difficulty.

We used Blackberry Cars for a pick-up at Heathrow. You might want to contact them to see if they do transfers to Windsor, and if so what the cost would be for that route.

Somewhere between £15 and £20 would be my guess.
The bus is as quick as the train route from Windsor (but slower than private hire) and at the moment would be £2.

I have used Windsor Cars for this, but it was pre pandemic and wouldn't remember the cost. They do have a website though which had a calculator to estimate costs.
