Arriving paddington from Heathrow express train tomorrow afternoon. Hotel is about a 20 min walk. I know we can Uber but would love to have our grandson experience the classic London cab. Do they still exist or has London moved to the traditional taxis? Or both? Are they at the same locations? Thank you.

When you get off the Heathrow express and walk through the barrier at the end of the platform, look down on the floor. You will see a black line on the floor that says “taxi.” You can literally follow this line through the station to the official taxi rank. You will find traditional taxis there.

Just to be clear you follow that line on the floor and then you go up one level. There are escalators and elevators. And yes the iconic black cabs are still in use.

Actually, no, we aren’t on one of the tours. Self guided exploration. Love the RS tours. Been on several. But this time is by ourself.

The cab ride was great. Paddington station to our hotel wasn’t that far but I really didn’t want to navigate the streets with backpacks and very tired bodies. Can line was short and we were to our lodgings quickly.
