Take That concert

Is anyone going to any of the concerts in the UK or upcoming dates in Europe? Are you aware of any travel-related impacts?

They are not Taylor Swift level but they are very popular in the UK.

Sandra, if you are a Take That fan, you need to watch the episode titled “The Concert” from The Derry Girls S2.E3 on Netflix. One of my favorite episodes from one of my favorite all time shows. Laugh till you cry funny!

Take That are playing in much smaller venues, I think 20-30,000, but one of the main differences is that people will not be travelling such long distances to see them so less impact on hotel prices. You won’t notice anything unless you are very close to the venue. They just did 2 dates in my city and I was not impacted at all. In the soccer season more people than that attend the stadium every other week.

My daughter and I loved, loved, loved Derry Girls!

I was not a teenager in the '90s but I had lived in London in the mid-'80s so the references were familiar. That is also one of our favourite episodes! It was such a great surprise when they started playing TT. My daughter has wanted to go to Ireland and Northern Ireland because of that show. Alas, it will not be this trip. We had fun on Google maps looking up the different towns they referenced.

Thanks, Helen! Very helpful.

We’ve said the same thing about visiting there bc of that show, too! My daughter and I have it on repeat, especially when we need a good laugh! It never gets old! Just adore that show!

I loved Derry Girls, too! I laughed my sides off watching it, and the nun made me think of my own Catholic grade school experience.

BTW, if you like shows based in Ireland, I really enjoyed Bodkin. Very interesting and definitely binge worthy.

Thanks for the suggestion mardee, I will definitely check that one out. We just finished Geek Girl. Sweet series/ story that has a lot of London and some Richmond scenery. As a former educator, I really appreciated seeing the way the writers included neurodivergent, awkward, “geeky” teenagers in the cast and storyline.
We enjoyed it.

Ooh, Geek Girl is on Prime here so I will add it to the list!

We have friends who live in Ham so have been to Richmond many times. Last year, my friend took us on a Ted Lasso bike tour of his own devise through Ham, Richmond, Teddington, Eel Pie Island (walking). It was our first trip since lockdown and Ted Lasso was, for a time, my go to for uplifting, fish out of water charm.

Sandra, I edited my post to say “some” Richmond scenery. Definitely not as much as the London shots, but it’s there in several episodes. My daughter told me that she read there is a season 2 in the works hopefully, so maybe there will be more.

Have any of you watched Trying on Apple+ TV? It's about a young couple in London trying to adopt and what happens. It's a funny and very heartwarming show with a great cast. It just started its 4th season.

Best of all, the couple lives in Camden, so there are so many shots of Camden Town, and all the areas around it. One day they're at Hampstead Heath, and another they go up in the London Eye. So many London locations and it's a great way to get your London fix. :-)

Thanks to this thread, we started watching Derry Girls and fell in love with all the characters. We watched all three seasons (19 episodes) the last two weeks and thought it got funnier as they went on. Both my husband and myself grew up going to Catholic school and had nuns like Sister George Michael. My husband also survived the wooden spoon, which was mentioned I believe in the first episode. Love, love, love this series.
