Can anyone suggest some beautiful swimming spots in England, either indoor or outdoor? This is for a Sept/Oct trip. I don’t do real cold water swimming.
We will be in Bath, Canterbury, Wells, Cambridge, and Salisbury.
If you know of other places not in those towns, we might get there on a future trip.
Are you talking about ‘wild swimming’ or in an actual pool? There are a few well known places for wild swimming near Bath. If you want a pool, Bath Leisure Centre will be your best bet. You can book sessions online in advance.
Street (that’s the name of the town) has an outdoor heated lido. It’s not far from Wells.
I can’t advise on your other destinations unfortunately but there will be an indoor public pool in most places.
If you come to Bristol there is a lovely Victorian lido in the Clifton area. It’s very atmospheric.
Thanks for these suggestions! Either pools or wild swimming is fine. I am not too adventurous in the water as far as safety goes, and we will not have a car so will use trains and buses.
We’d like to visit the southern shore, see some chalk cliffs, and relax by the sea a couple of days between Bath and London. Can anyone suggest a family type beach on the central southern shore, basically somewhere south of Bath?
Thanks very much!
Graciesie,
You'll get a much better response to your question if you start a thread of your own. You'll see a button marked "Start a New Topic" at the top of the England forum. There will be many recommendations of places to visit in the south and south west of England.
Thanks very much, GerryM!
If you're planning any outdoor swimming it can be a good idea to check this sewage tracking map before going in the water. https://www.sas.org.uk/water-quality/sewage-pollution-alerts/
