Hi Shawn -

Try Encounter Walking Holidays, specialists in the south west and based down there. Did our Two Moors Way trek for us effortlessly (we walked, that was the only effort we had to expend!). Their website has a plethora of available routes but many foreign visitors do the South West Coastal Path or rather sections of it, and they seem well versed in that. Check out the reviews on their site - it’s at:

encounterwalkingholidays.com

I believe Damian is the head honcho and, if you like, tell them we sent you (I think you’ll be OK!)

Thanks! Also....we have read that those paths can be more popular. Anyone have recommendations of other routes that are as cool and beautiful, yet perhaps, literally, off the beaten path?

Hi Shawn -

The Encounter website has an interactive map which shows you a wide selection of paths and trails and breaks the SW Coast path up into bite size chunks. The coast will be busy where you pass through the resort towns - and there’s plenty of those - but once away from them it will be quieter and I’m pretty certain it will not be nose to tail.

That said, if you avoided the coast in the main, you would have the paths to yourselves for the most part. The map will tell you how difficult the walk is and even how busy it is. It’s probably not a fair analogy because we did the Two Moors Way ‘in reverse’ I.e north to south instead of northbound which is the more usual direction, but we only saw a handful of walkers and then heading in the opposite direction, and certainly none at all going our way.

The Encounter map is full of ideas and will give you food for thought. And you don’t have to commit to anything to use it.

We have hiked the SW Coast path around Falmouth and Penzance. Cornwall is beautiful. We used to have family in the area. The path there was well used. It's not in Cornwall, but we also hiked the SW Coast path from Sidmouth to Weymouth in Dorset and Devon. That wasn't desolate, but it was less crowded. We stopped in Seaton, Seatown, Abbotsbury on the way to Weymouth. We found luggage transfer services to move our luggage and booked our own B&B's along the way. It was gorgeous. The SW Coast Path website has lots of info, including guided walk companies. Sorry, but I don't have any to recommend, though.
