Sunday Roast time allowance

We would like to take in a Sunday Roast meal prior to seeing the “Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style” exhibit. Our entry time is 3:45. I have been looking into the Buckingham Arms as a possibility to make reservations ahead. I wasn’t sure how long to expect the meal to extend. Should the typical Afternoon Tea timeframe be a good guide? An hour and a half ish? Open to other suggestions as well in the vicinity of Buckingham Palace and the exhibit. Thank you all for your help!

I think an hour and a half would be fine, but a Sunday roast is so filling that it takes me a while to eat my way through it! You might prefer to allow 2 hours and if you finish early, stroll a bit while you digest.

I haven't eaten at the Buckingham Arms but have had a very good roast at Blacklock. Their Soho location is about a 20-minute walk from the palace, I believe.

An hour and a half is plenty of time. One of my favourite places to get Sunday roast is nearby- The Star Tavern in Belgravia.

Thanks for the replies thus far. Cat, what are your favorite dishes at The Star Tavern? My daughter and I prefer a vegetarian option and the Nut Roast looks like a possibility. My son goes for meatier selections. It looks like about a 20 min walk to Buckingham Palace which would be nice to do afterwards and not feel so heavy when at the exhibition.

My favourite dish there is a the nut roast! I'm not a big meat eater so normally go for the veg option at Sunday roast. The Star has one of my favourite nut roasts in London. A general recommendation I have, if like me you are not strictly veg, is to order the regular (meat) gravy with your nut roast. In general I find the veg gravy to be quite thin. Some places also have a vegan Yorkshire pudding option but I always get the regular one as I think that tastes better- in case you are faced with that choice.

That sounds great! I’ll definitely remember the tip about the meat gravy to go with. It looks like a really nice option for us.
