I'd like to do Sunday roast dinner this month when we're in London. Any suggestions besides Hawksmoor? Hoping for something a bit smaller in size with a local pub/small restaurant feel.
The Pembroke, a pub on Old Brompton Road just west of Earl's Court Road does a Sunday Roast. I've never had it but I like the food at this pub. Two levels plus a roof garden.
Nearly every pub and restaurant in the country will do Sunday lunch - just pop in somewhere - wherever you happen to be - at lunchtime. Roast beef will be disappointing compared to what you get in America, on the whole.
Thank you for the Earl's Court area suggestion. Since we're meeting up with a friend, I need to pick a specific spot. The Pembroke could be just right.
My favorite pub to eat in that area is The Blackbird, almost across the street from the tube on Earls Court Road. I haven't had the Sunday roast, but other things, especially a meat pie, are very good. And it's a Fullers Pub! (so is Hereford Arms, very close to the Gloucester Road stop, and also a good choice.) Both are also a nice atmosphere. And neither are a "high-fulutin'" gastro-pub. Those places try to be too fancy. You want a traditional experience!
