We'll be on the London Walks Thames Sightseeing, Brunel's River Cruise tour that ends at the Mayflower Pub. Can anyone recommend Sunday Roast there, or should we head out to Hawksmoor for a sure thing?
I can’t comment on the Sunday Roast but The Mayflower is one of the can’t miss old time pubs London has to offer. We consider the Mayflower a destination pub, worth a long walk or boat/tube to tip a few pints. Aside from real ale, I very much enjoyed my dinner the one time we ate there. I would describe the food as upscale pub food, better than the typical pub. If you have extra time, cross the Thames and go to The Prospect of Whitby, another spectacular pub not to be missed. Cheers.
Wanderlust58,
Thanks for asking this question! I’m signed up for this very same Brunel sightseeing tour in April on a Friday morning so I suppose roast will not be on the menu. I didn’t even know about Isambard Brunel and his engineering feats until I saw this London Walks itinerary and I read up on him. I look forward to eating at the Mayflower Pub.
Why not enjoy the Mayflower? Cheaper. Liked my Sunday roast there years ago. Probably because I walked 3 miles to get there.
I've read mixed reviews on the Mayflower. We may end up there, depending, but it seems people think it's a better pub than Sunday Roast place. Since this is a one-off experience, I'd like to maximize it.
Then pay the money and go to Hawksmoor for
“ a sure thing.”
