Thank you very much! This will be so helpful! I appreciate the information! :0)
We enjoyed afternoon tea at The Orangerie at Kensington Palace. We were there on a beautiful sunny summer day with the doors wide open. I don't think it would have the same ambience on a cold or wintery day.
There are so many good options for afternoon tea! Claridge's is my favorite place I have had tea at - the room is gorgeous and I felt the sandwiches and desserts were the best. The Dorchester is a close runner up - we had a great tea there earlier this month and everything was quite lovely. Both are pricey especially if you have champagne.
The Orangerie at Kensington Palace was nice - a friend and I had tea there in 2017 and I remember it was moderately priced with an option for a glass of bubbly or Pimm's Cup.
If you take a tour of Parliament afternoon tea is offered. https://www.parliament.uk/visiting/venue-hire/lords/planning/aw-2023-24-menus/aw-2023-24-breakfast2/
Thank you for all the lovely replies!
Has anyone ever tried the OWO? Award winner this year. We will be at the Churchill War Rooms before tea - I believe the OWO is ‘around the corner’. Could be a nice walk to a beautiful building! :0)
The OWO is the Old War Office and is almost across the road from the Churchill War Rooms, a five minute walk max.
I haven’t been there for tea so can’t really comment. It seems to price match the ‘usual suspect’ posh afternoon tea locations, for example Fortnums, so my guess it will a similar quality. I did notice on the menu that 3 of the cakes had shortbread as a base which to mean feels a bit ‘samey’ but maybe the other ingredients will make them more different?
I must be getting old because calling it ‘The OWO’ makes me cringe, a bit naff for Raffles.
It is an impressive building on the inside and a bit of a rabbit warren. I occasionally had meetings there, in the other half of the building, and I never got my bearings. Once I popped out of a meeting to use the loo and never found my way back to the room. Thankfully I had my bag with me so after some frustrated wandering I saw an exit sign and just left! I had to sheepishly apologise and explain the next day.
A great place for afternoon tea in the Westminster area is The Library at County Hall. It is just across the Westminster Bridge in the Marriott County Hall and has a wonderful view of the Thames, the Westminster Bridge and Big Ben. I had the Traditional Afternoon Tea there with my daughter and granddaughter, and we all loved it. We actually made a reservation for 12:00 noon since we knew we would have a lot of food, so it became our lunch. It was delightful and I would highly recommend it.
Thank you-Thank you for all of the helpful hints and tips! I will check them out! Appreciate your input! Happy travels!
