Summer of public transport discontent continues - BA Heathrow

BA check-in staff at Heathrow are balloting for a July strike.

Unite, the union, said that the workers had a 10% pay cut imposed on them during the coronavirus pandemic but bosses have refused to reverse this, despite restoring their own pay to pre-pandemic levels.

The industrial action ballot, covering about 500 staff, will open on 7 June and close on 27 June.

If workers approve strike action, it is expected to take place in July - the peak month for summer travel.

And so they should. I wonder if the First Class wing will be affected, that might cause a stir amongst the bosses.

I'm surprised they haven't gone the route of Gatwick with self check-in and bag drop.

One wonders how BA managers think that no one notices such bone-headed decisions.
Perhaps the check-in staff should have their pay fully restored and manager’s pay reduced by 10%.

Do you think this will have trickle down effects to the Gatwick airport and other airlines?

The BA operation at Gatwick is different to that at Heathrow. The staff working on routes from there are on different contracts. Other airlines also won't be impacted.
