We will be flying in to Heathrow three days prior to our cruise out of Dover in April. I have already booked a hotel in Dover for the night prior to the cruise for sightseeing in that area. I am debating between taking the train or national express to Dover. As we would have to travel from Heathrow into London to make either of those connections, looking for options of a hotel for two nights near either of those transportation lines before we continue to Dover. I hope to see the Dr Who Museum and National Museum. As we will most likely just want to sleep the day we fly in, we will really only have one full day for sightseeing in London. We plan a day tour of London via coach on our return from Dover to Heathrow. Budget of approx 150 GBP per night if possible

where are you flying in from USA/Canada? how many people and dates?
london is a very expensive and a busy/crowded city, your budget is very LOW. it always amazes me how many people want low budget in a big expensive city yet spend more for vacation and cruises.
all over europe there just doesn't seem to be off season anymore, it's all year long with so much to see and do with many traveling all the time. another thing to remember is check-in is 3-4pm and check out 10-11am, get early check in okay in writing/email if possible (pay for extra night before or after). we arrived one year at 8am on a sunday morning and had to wait until 2pm with luggage at outside closed bar tables, was no fun. be prepared
the world has changed so much with many places and people trying to make a living when everything is so expensive, wonder if people price accomodations in their own area how much things are. don't forget the cost of transportation, trains/trams/buses/taxis.
booking.com
look at the site, on left side are filters you check to see what suits your fancy and book it, don't look back. check cancellation polices, size of beds, lift/elevator to climd stairs/steps with luggage, etc. good luck have fun
The fastest trains between London and Dover will depart from St. Pancras station.
The Piccadilly line has a direct service from Heathrow to Kings Cross/St. Pancras that will take about an hour.
150 GBP is low but check out the Premier Inn St. Pancras for a hotel room. If not there are other Premier Inns in the area.
If you prefer to take the coach, it leaves from Victoria Coach station and there are many hotels in that area. You can also get the coach from Heathrow to the Victoria Coach station. Be aware, the train is much faster than the coach. By far.
We always stay at Premier Inn Paddington Inlet which is a very popular brand of hotels in the U.K.
From Heathrow Airport, you can take the Heathrow Express to the train station in 15 minutes. Also the new Elizabeth Line goes there for less money. The Circle Line also goes through Paddington Station and they have all kinds of foods across the street and inside the train station.
Premier Inn is about $150 a night and it is a nice high rise modern property. It is about a 500 yard walk from the train station in a very safe and clean neighborhood. They have a bar/restaurant on site and a great buffet breakfast.
From Paddington Station, you can get anywhere in the city quick and efficient.
I second Frank Ii's recommendation of a hotel near St Pancras, for convenience sake. While £150 is low, you can find something as long as you don't mind a very small, basic room. My theory is in London you won't spend much time in tour hotel anyway. Definitely check out Premier Inns, but there are also a lot of cheap hotels near St Pancras about that budget.
And if you're planning to sleep as soon as you arrive, and you're arriving before your afternoon checkin time, you will need to book the night prior as well you guarantee checkin, otherwise highly likely you will need to wait until 2 or 3pm.
There are lots of hotels in both St Pancras and Victoria so once you have decided where you will travelling from update the forum and people can give you specific hotel recommendations.
You say you plan to do a tour of London by coach when you return, I’m not sure that is necessary and I’m guessing will probably be expensive? It is also likely to get stuck in traffic. If you have particular sights you are interested in seeing you can probably plan your own tour of them. Here are also some ‘normal’ London bus routes that go past a number of sights.
Final point of pedantry, but only to help your research. There is no ‘ National Museum’. There is the British Museum, which I am guessing you mean? And also the National Gallery, which is pictures.
We will be flying in from St Louis. This year we flew in to Gatwick and were able to get into our airport hotel as soon as we landed, slept a few hours then explored Corydon on foot and had a great Indian diner before taking the train to Southampton the next day. I will check out the premier Inns as suggested we just need a clean place to sleep we don’t spend much time in our rooms
There are really good specials right now in The Tower bridge area at both the thistle and park plaza River bank. If I were to use one of those hotels, how difficult is it to get to Kings cross for my departure?
The Riverbank Park Plaza isn’t by Tower Bridge, it is between Vauxhall and Lambeth Bridge on the south bank of the river? Not a very good location for St Pancras but OK for Victoria. Near enough that you could do it in a cab for not much more than the cost of public transport.
Premier Inn is about $150 a night.
Sometimes, but it really depends on when you book your room and what area you're staying in. The earlier you book, the cheaper the price. Also some areas are more expensive—for example the Premier Inn County Hall cost me around $180 a night back in March of 2024 but I booked it months ahead of time. I checked again about a month or so before I left and the cheapest room was around $250 Also, the newer Premier Inns are usually a bit more expensive than the older ones.
Also, breakfast is available at Premier Inn but it is an extra cost. The cost varies depending on the location but it's usually around £10-£12 for a continental breakfast and several pounds higher for a cooked breakfast. The food is good, though, and there is usually plenty of it.

my niece stayed at cherry court hotel 23 hugh street victoria
it was her and 2 teenage kids, her daughter received 3 month summer program i think near cambridge. she had a family room which she says was small but made do. make sure a bathroom ensuite and not down the hall.
don't know how close it is to what you want to see/do and transportation, but as emma says take a cab to drop you off at station.
enjoy and have fun GOBBLE GOBBLE
aloha
You could spend a while searching for a central hotel for £150 a night and probably find something. Alternatively, look on the Premier Inn site and check out the hotels slightly outside the centre, such as Hammersmith. Their hotels will be well within budget and a quick and easy tube trip into the actual centre.
