Suggestion for hotel at Heathrow with Terminal 2 check in for Logan air next morning

I am flying in to Heathrow from US in July and on a separate Loganair ticket from Heathrow to Kirkwall the next day. Since I am not really familiar with Heathrow as I avoid it if possible, I would probably prefer to stay at an airport hotel overnight and walk over to check in the next day. Loganair to Kirkwall from Heathrow leaves usually from Terminal 2. Any suggestions on a hotel?

I have flown Loganair before from Edinburgh to Kirkwall so am familiar with their weight restrictions. I understand at Heathrow we leave from a 'bus gate". Anyone ever done that?

First, the hotel.

There is a Hilton Garden Inn right next to Terminal 2. It's less than a one minute walk from the terminal. (Through the parking garage). I've stayed many times and have another reservation in less than 3 weeks. It will be the night before an early morning Loganair flight. It will take about 3 minutes from the hotel to the departure area of the terminal. Four if you take the elevator over the escalator up to the departure level. (The hotel is on the arrival level.)

Now the flight. Yes, Loganair boards from a remote gate. (I'm guessing it's the same flight I'll be on--different day--that stops in Dundee.) You will board the bus from a gate on the lower level of T2 and be taken to the plane. It's a turboprop with a maximum of 42 passengers. I've taken it many times and have never seen it full. In fact the flight is being discontinued in September.

What airline are you flying into Heathrow?

We've used the Hilton, too, for our early morning flights out of T2. Its a decent hotel and you can't beat the proximity to the terminal.

We used the Hilton Garden Inn last week. It's just fine for one night before or after a flight.

I have stayed at Hilton Garden Inn, terminal 2/3 many times. They can be pricey. I will book at the higher rate (refundable rate) and then keep checking back. It often will go down somewhat. I then rebook at lower rate and cancel first reservation. I am a Hilton Honors member.

Thank you everyone for your feedback on the Hilton. I really appreciate it. Confirms what I was thinking and really helpful to have feedback from people who have recently used the connections, etc.

To answer your question, Frank, I am flying in and out to the States on United. I checked and it uses Terminal 2 also at Heathrow so the Hilton Garden In sounds perfect for both ways.

Hoping that the strike possibilities, even though only directed at Edinburgh and Glasgow, won't impact my flights through Dundee.

I am finding Loganair helpful but a bit challenging.

Dundee Airport is operated by a different company than those of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

As of now, there is only one plane that operates in and out of Dundee. The airport is tiny. One arrival gate, one departure gate. Commercial planes larger than a turboprop can't operate out of Dundee due to the short runway.

The flights to and from Heathrow will stop after September 18 and as of now, nothing is replacing them. No word on whether or not the flights from Dundee to Kirkwall and Sumburgh will continue. As I stated earlier, all of these flights are on the same plane based at Dundee.

If you have any questions about Loganair, let me know. I have flown them all over the UK and in and out of many airports.

Yes, United operates out of Termimal 2. The arrivals level is the same level as the entrance to the hotel. As you exit the terminal into the covered area, just walk between the two banks of elevators. (Toward the pick up area for Uber and hired cars). Just pass that in the parking garage is the entrance to the hotel.
