Storm Bert- Disruption to Travel

Today, Saturday 23 November Storm Bert is expected to bring High Winds and substantial snow fall turning later to heavy rain across the whole of England and Scotland south of Edinburgh and Glasgow,

Avanti trains have issued a Do Not Travel notice north of Preston. As of 7am services are running and planned to run all day. However the line may be closed without warning and no alternative road transport will be provided.

The East Coast main line has a general precautionary notice on, but Network Rail have already cancelled a charter train due to run on the line today. If the line does eventually close again no alternative provision will be put in place.

Road travel throughout the affected area will be hazardous and closures of high level routes may occur, especially if the anticipated snow falls of up to 12 inches occur.

Really today and tomorrow are days not to travel in the area if at all possible.
