Arriving mid-June into Heathrow. We'll have 2-3 days only and then fly on to Lisbon as we have a wedding to attend. After spending what feels like hours looking over London and lodging I'm wondering if we might enjoy spending that time in Windsor area. It;s feeling slightly like we'll be coming in jet lagged and on a run trying to fit everything in. Plus, Windor looks more quintessential English, we can visit the castle... Any opinions on this?
I like your idea of staying in Windsor. From there you can go into London for a day either by bus or train. See https://www.tripsavvy.com/transportation-from-london-to-windsor-castle-1662355
Staying in Windsor is a great idea? It’s only a 15 minute cab ride from Hearthrow. After touring the castle you
exit through the King Henry VIII gate, right across the street is a nice pub, The Horse and Groom. You could also walk down to Windsor Great Park, if you are standing on High Street with your back towards the castle, turn left and walk down the sidewalk, it will take you to the park (5 minute) walk. Also, you could walk to Eton. if you stand across the street facing the castle turn to your left, go to the second street on your left and turn left. You will cross the bridge and you are in Eton, The bridge is pedestrian, there are benches there and watch the swans on the Thames. The Ye Harte and Garter Hotel is s great hotel and it’s across the street from the castle.
