Stonehenge tours

Has anyone used Evan Evans tours or Golden Tours for Stonehenge? I clarified with Evan Evans that their 2.5 hour tour does not have a tour guide, simply an audioguide. Is the "tour" simply a bus ride there and back, since I can purchase an audioguide once I am there? Looks like Golden Tours is the same. Am I missing something?

My answer in no way addresses your question, lol, but thought I'd add that this is an easy trip to do by public transportation.

Take the train from London Waterloo station to Salisbury.

The local bus company called Salisbury Reds runs a loop from the station and a downtown pick up site out to Stonehenge and back by Old Sarum all day. The bus is called the Stonehenge Tour even though to my mind it's not really a tour altho they do have an audio intro to Stonehenge.

You get the audio guide with the entry to Stonehenge and can then take the shuttle bus out to the stones. I head out on the shuttle then walk back thru the fields to veer closer to some burial tumuli and a feature called the Cursus.

If you have time you can see the Salisbury Cathedral after you get back from the stones. There is one of the original Magna Carta there altho it is currently not on display after having been attacked recently and had the case damaged.

I have not, but I've used the Salisbury bus and it's very nice. It also stops at Old Sarum (and, for that matter, at a park & ride lot that's situated between Stonehenge and Old Sarum, if I remember correctly). I've used the audio guide that you get with your Stonehenge entry fee. It's good. The visitor centre has lots to see both indoors and out. From there you can walk or take the free shuttle bus to the stones. There's also a large gift shop and a cafe with plenty of food choices and seating.

If I were signing up for a tour, I'd like to do the one by Pat Shelley.

Epltd! I, too, would love to do that Pat Shelley tour! I did a basic TI walking tour of Salisbury a few years ago and he was filling in for one of the usual guides. He was wonderful.
