Stonehenge ticket options

Stonehenge will be the first thing we do after exiting the airport, but I’m worried it will take longer to get out of the airport and that we’d miss the ticket entry time. Their website says they’ll try to still get you in but you might have to wait for the next available slot. I’m just wondering what my best option is.

If I purchase an UK heritage overseas visitor pass, is it easy enough to pick up at Stonehenge or is there a long queue to pick it up?

Should I just purchase tickets in person?

Would I be able to purchase tickets as we’re leaving the airport so I have a better estimate of when we’ll arrive?

Any other options I haven’t thought of?

As a side question, I’ve realized we’ll be in the UK during the summer solstice. It would take a lot of planning to change our itinerary and we would maybe have to sacrifice something else but would it be worth going to Stonehenge on the summer solstice? I don’t think we’d make it for the sunrise, so our options would be stop by on the evening of June 20th like around 8pm or the evening of June 21st. When is the latest you can visit on the 21st?

I’ve only seen people commenting who are very interested in Stonehenge and they are talking about the summer solstice like it’s a bucket list item. But for someone who is just an average visitor, is it as great as people make it sound or is it a hassle to visit with the bigger crowds?
