We have tickets to go inside the circle of the stones for 7:30am on a Monday. They're not with a tour company. My question is, how do we get there that early if we don't want to drive? Could we hire a car and driver? Does anyone have experience doing that for Stonehenge? Thanks for any and all suggestions!
Where would you be coming from?
We'd be coming from London.
Best to stay in a hotel or B&B close to Stonehenge the night before, or I fear you will never make it in time. Amesbury is very close to Stonehenge. You should be able to travel from Amesbury to Stonehenge in ten to twenty minutes by taxi. There is not a bus.
There is a bus station, but the bus goes to Salisbury, and one to London. None specifically leave for Stonehenge, that I know of.
I agree with Rebecca. You could also stay the night before in Salisbury, larger town with more options of places to stay and easier to get to from London but still a short taxi drive to Stonehenge. You could try to hire a car and driver from London but you'd have to be prepared to leave London around 5:00am. Under ideal conditions, it's an hour and 1/2 drive but I think you'd have to be prepared for less than ideal conditions and add about an hour to that just to be safe. It also might be quite costly.
I agree with the others....if you start from London, even at 5AM, you risk not making it. Depending on the part of the city you are staying in will also make a huge difference in the traffic and the time it will take to get there. I echo everyone else's advice here to stay close to Stonehenge the night before. London traffic is an absolute nightmare, especially on a Monday morning, and it would be terrible to get there, be late, and miss out on this amazing experience.
Thank you all for the great advice! I hadn't even considered staying somewhere closer the night before and just getting a taxi to Stonehenge. That is what we will plan to do!
