Staying near Kensington, help with details, please!

Couple things: we are staying at the Go Native apartments in Kensington on Warwick, and am wondering about a pub close by within walking distance. Second time to London, first time in this area, not sure how close this is to shops, restaurants, etc.

As far as transportation around the city, as I understand it we can use the Oyster card on both the tube and public bus, is that correct? Pros and cons of each?

We will be flying into Heathrow and spending the first 2 nights in Milton Keanes, then coming back to London for the rest of the vacation. From Heathrow should we take a cab to Euston train station to get to Milton Keanes from there? If so, should we get train tickets in advance? Our flight arrives around noon.

Thanks, a lot of details to nail down!

There is a direct coach service between Heathrow and Milton Keynes, but it only runs every other hour. Still it may suit. Alternative public transport is bus 724 to Watford Junction then the train.

There is not much immediately outside, and it is a dull location with lots of traffic, railway tracks at the rear and a big construction site a couple of blocks away. It's the kind of out-of-town location with a multi-lane highway and a narrow sidewalk. 10 minutes walk will take you to Earls Court Road which has a few shops/pubs/restaurants. As long as it is just a base for exploring London you will be fine. Good news is there is a large 24-hour Tesco next door, and there is an hourly rail service from Milton Keynes to Kensington Olympia.

Thanks, all!

And, yes, I knew how to spell Milton Keynes...duh...

Now I'm a little concerned about where we're staying...it's too late to change.

How would I find out how much a taxi would be from Heathrow to Milton Keynes?

Thanks for all the good advice,

Julie

It is around 60 miles by taxi so won't be cheap.

Thx, that sounds like a great way to go. Might be a bit more expensive, but worth it for less hassle.

so where would you walk to for a nice pub back towards Kensington proper? Or if not walk, close enough by bus?
