My wife and I are traveling to England in October. For internet service, checking train schedule and travel related into, what is the best way to stay connected in England. We have Consumer Cellular for your cell service and they offer an international plan. Or has anyone ever used a Hot Spot like the Ryoko Portable Mobile WiFi that you can purchase?
for the non confidential stuff like that there is free wifi on almost every train, major station and any decent hotel or pub.
To know what's really going on on the railways (or least to know before the station staff do!) get Realtimetrains , it's free and has minimal ads. All legal and licenced by Nework Rail but more useful than the officlal sites - which raises some obvious questions......
Can your phone take an eSIM? I use Airalo.

Yes, go for it. Once you enroll and activate it, you have service as soon as you land and turn on your phone - it's absolutely seamless. I was in London for 8 nights back in December and it worked flawlessly. You do pay according to usage, but my bill was less than $4.00 for the time I was there. You might turn off some cellular bandwidth-intensive functions, such as syncing photos with Cloud - just wait to have those occur over wifi.
