Stansted Express

My husband and I are taking the Stansted Express from London to Stansted Airport. When looking at ordering our tickets online the price was cheaper to buy 2 single standard class advance tickets £28 than the 1 single WebDuo Offer (standard class) for £32. I'm not sure if buying the single tickets means that only the person buying the ticket can use those tickets, not two separate people.
Also, we are flying from London into Shannon Ireland. Will we go thru customs in UK or in Ireland?

I don't know anything about the Offer fare, but I can say that if the ticket is an "Advance" ticket it is only valid on exactly one departure. If you miss that one or want to go earlier the ticket is non refundable and cannot be changed on the train. It needs to be changed prior to departure at a booking office and there will be a fee, probably more than the ticket when all is said and done.

A single ticket covers one person for a one way journey. Two people need two single tickets.

Stansted Express Advances are unusual in that they aren't tied to a particular train. Singles are valid for any train on the date booked; returns are the same for the outward journey and the return part is valid for any train within a month.

Available to/from Liverpool Street, Tottenham Hale & Stratford.

Prices start from £7.50 to £8 - they will rise as the quota for each price level is sold, presumably controlled by the first day they are booked for..

Webduo has 2 x Standard Class Anytime Single tickets online for £32.00 (London Liverpool Street to/from Stansted Airport) . Two adults must be traveling together for the ticket to work. Advance offer fares available from £8.00 one-way between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport. This is cheapest by far but there is limited availability. You would have to buy two tickets. Stansted Airport can be busy at times. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time. Also Liverpool Street station is to the East of London and you will need to get across London to get to it. I am not sure about customs. I would think you probably will go through customs in Ireland. I grew up around Stansted Airport and have family in the area, so travel to England frequently. Are you using Ryan air? if so, just follow the rules and you will be fine. I had a smooth flight from Ireland to England last July with them.

Hadn't noticed the customs question. You will go through a passport check in Ireland but will exit through the Blue EU arrivals for customs. If you are Irish or British though you don't need a passport for this journey unless your airline needlessly demands one like Ryanair.

If the Stansted Express tickets are too expensive for you, look into getting the National Express bus from Stratford railway station (trains from Liverpool Street, also Central and Jubilee tube lines and Docklands Light Railway). The advance fare is only £8 and doesn't sell out as fast as the train. Leaving from Stratford gets you past the worst of the city centre traffic.

It is hardly a coincidence that the bottom saver fare by rail is the same as the coaches where I think there are still two options.

Marco:

Two options, yes, but different from how it used to be. The second option is now Citylink coaches non-stop from St Pancras, which might be of interest if you are connecting from Eurostar or a train from northern parts, but is too traffic-risky as a normal means of travel to the airport. I'm commenting to draw attention to nasty rumours that Terravision (who used to run on the same route as National Express from Victoria via Stratford, but lost their concession) are still selling tickets, but are just taking people from Victoria to St Pancras to get the Citylink coach, which is a total waste of time - don't be fooled by this.
