Stamted to Downtown London

We are a party of 4. We will be flying into Heathrow and then taking the bus to Stamsted Airport and staying at a hotel for 3 days. We would like to do some sightseeing in London and are planning to take the Stamsted train to reach the city. What is the best recommendation for which station in the city to travel to. Also, we plan on taking a hop on/hop off type bus to see the city. We're all senior citizens and are looking for less walking. Are we crazy, or not? We were thinking of going into the city each day for 2 days. Would appreciate any advice.

Typo?

No Stamsted but there is Stansted Airport.

What Stansted train? Are you referring to the Stansted Express? Getting into London will take time but it is doable.

Ride it to Liverpool Street, exit and then board a Circle Line Underground train to Westminster. Exit there for the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Elizabeth’s Tower with the Big Ben Bell.
About as iconic view of London that you can get.
All of these are within in easy walking distance of each other. Just go slow and know the area will be crowded.

Not being rude but when you say senior citizens are saying 70’s or 80’s. I was born when Truman was in office and average 3-6 miles a day walking when I stay in London. Personal preference as I believe it provides a great way to experience London.

Great city. Enjoy it.

The Stansted Airport is about 45 minutes by train into the city.

You might do better staying in the city at a central location and taking the train from the Liverpool Station to Stansted the day of your flight.

With 4 individuals, you could catch a cab reasonably from your hotel to Liverpool to avoid walking.

Are you flying out of Stansted airport?

Do not understand staying in Stansted if your plan is to visit London.

Why are you wanting to stay in the "Stamted" area? Makes no sense. Normally I don't comment on where people want to stay. But this is pushing it. Nothing is around the airport and it is a long hike into London. You are wasting a lot of time on public t ransit. Are you crazy?? Yep !!!

You don't have to go to Liverpool Street for the Stansted Express. You can change off the Victoria Line at Tottenham Hale.

Personally, if staying at Stansted I would stay at the VERY close by town of Bishop's Stortford- literally just over the airport fence.

People are also going to be scathing about using the HoHo bus in London- it just isn't what most people on this particular forum do.

It is actually faster from Stansted into central London than it is on the tube.

It is certainly an unusual place to stay for London. Crazy?- I don't think so.
