St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle

If visiting Windsor Castle, just to be aware that St George's Chapel sometimes closes earlier than the Castle, around 1430. A friend went there today and encountered exactly that happening, unadvertised.

Before Christmas there are 3 notable early closing dates-

Monday, 4 December 2023 - St George's Chapel closing 13:00
Friday, 8 December 2023 - St George's Chapel opening 11:00
Saturday, 23 December 2023 - St George's Chapel closing 13:00

That’s good information to know. Thanks for sharing it for others. St George’s Chapel was the highlight of our visit there.

Good advice.

In fact, if you’re visiting any churches or cathedrals during December, look out for early closures due to the fact that they’ll be having carol services and the like.

You might get lucky and actually find a service to attend.

It is always closed to the public on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sundays, but they have Evensong at 5:15pm every evening that the public is allowed to attend, they let people in at 5:pm.

Evening Prayer is SAID on Wednesday evenings and during Choir Holidays such as 26 December 2023 to 6 January 2024 (see the Chapel website). There is also said Mattins daily at 7.30 am and said Holy Communion daily at 8am.
Check the weekly music lists on their website, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services which are open to the public.

Hampton Court is another of the Royal Chapels (the so-called Royal Peculiars) where the public can attend services outside the normal opening times of the Palace.
The other Peculiars are the Chapel Royal at St James Palace, the King’s Chapel of the Savoy, the Chapels of St Peter ad Vincula and St John the Evangelist in the Tower of London and the Royal Foundation of St Katharine. All of which I have been to services at in my time (except St Katharine's).
