Why do your guidebooks have nothing on southern England, Devon, or Cornwall? Is there really nothing noteworthy to see in these areas? Some sights are marked on your map, such as the Fishbourne Roman Palace and Dover Castle. Are they not open to the public?

When planning my trips, I use at least 3 different travel books for ideas because every writer has a bias..
I'm a bit confused by this post. I'm looking at my copy the Rick Steves England and it DOES include southern England. Information about Fishbourne Roman Palace can be found on page 319; Dover Castle is on p. 269. The book covers Canterbury, Dover & Southeast England, Brighton, Portsmouth, Dartmoor and Cornwall. The Great Britain book does leave out these areas, as it also covers Wales and Scotland. I believe there are also areas of Scotland which are left out of the Great Britain book, but are included in the Scotland one.
A new poster, with a critical and innacurate accusation raises suspicions or perhaps it's just my coppers nose going into overdrive!
It should not be assumed that everyone's local library or bookstore (even assuming there is a bookstore) has a full set of Rick Steves guide books. It may well be that only the Great Britain book is available locally.
Comparative information about the various GB books is available here: https://store.ricksteves.com/shop/p/britain-guidebook. Click on "Is This the Right Book for Me?".
It is true that it is a very good idea to supplement Rick's book with another that has broader coverage. Rick provides in-depth information (including a great deal of logistical advice and detailed descriptions of major museums) about the destinations he chooses to cover. He doesn't cover every worthwhile stop.

Doing a thorough search of the posts on this forum is a great way to get info on areas not covered in his books.
Ashley's right. I spend a huge amount of time here before every trip, going back through several years' worth of posts. The UK residents and frequent visitors have been very generous about sharing ideas for less-visited places.
