We will be disembarking from cruise in Southampton and plan to go to Stonehenge from there. Any suggestions for transportation would be most welcome. We would prefer a rental car, if you can pick one up at the port. If you have done this, please advise.
Don't bother renting a car. Take a train from Southampton Central to Salisbury. A shuttle bus service operates from Salisbury to Stonehenge. On returning to Salisbury, see the medieval Cathedral.

Enterprise is the closest at the port and the other majors are there or close.
We are also getting off a cruise in Southampton. We are renting a car through Kemwel (a rental consolidator based in the US). We pick the car up at the airport. Planning to take a taxi to the airport to get the rental. We'll drop the car off in a week before we get to London.
We have used Kemwel a few times before and they are easy to work with. All our rentals have been perfect.
If you prefer to drive, then we won't discourage you. The Kemwel site should offer you a choice of pick-up locations.
