Southampton to Oxford

After we dock in SOU with the Queen Mary 2 we are going directly to Oxford for 2 nights. Do I just take a taxi to the station and catch the next train or bus to Oxford, or is this something we should plan ahead?

As an aside, should we try to do a tour of Stonehedge, assuming they would hold our luggage on the bus, or just travel straight there?
Thank you!

You can get a direct train from Southampton to Oxford operated by CrossCountry trains - book here. You can get significant discounts if you book your ticket in advance, but this will limit you to a single specific train, so may not be suitable if your docking time is uncertain.

Stonehenge is not on the direct route from Southampton to Oxford, and it would be difficult to do by public transport.

Stonehenge - are you interested in old rocks or do you feel that you have to see it as many others go there? Personally, I can think of a million and one better ways to spend my time, but that reflects my interests, not yours and it’s not my trip. With only 2 days in Oxford, I would head straight there.

"should we try to do a tour of Stonehedge"

If you're expecting to see a "hedge" at Stonehenge, you'll be sadly disappointed.😁
