Southampton to London, and hotels

We are taking the New York Times Broadway cruise from New York to Southampton in October. We'd like to spend 3 nights in London before returning home. We are in our early 80s and have several pieces of luggage due to medical needs. I would appreciate suggestions for transport options from Southampton docks to London. Also, since it's been many years since our last visit to London, recommendations for reasonably priced (under 225 pounds per night) hotels in good locations are welcome.

Maybe the easiest would be to catch a cab from the docks to Southampton Central train station, catching one of the frequent trains to London Waterloo Station.

From there, I would look for a hotel on the South Bank (short cab ride) or Central London.

I hope that the SWR strike on trains between Southampton and Waterloo will be over by October 2020. You never know - the one on Southern Railway dragged on for years. But since the SWR strike is continuous rather than a day or two here and there I hope it will resolve sooner rather than later.

Still, it is always wise to check a couple of months out for any issues.

Can you leave any of the cruise luggage onboard?

Well, two people in their 80’s with an excess of luggage deserve a private transfer vehicle, which will meet you on the dock. Start your inquiries with West Quay taxis (based in Southampton) and see what you think. We used them once and were well pleased. Lots of other transfer companies out there, too.

Bearing in mind Norma's points, I agree
