South England #2

Would appreciate your advice or any comments you may have regarding the following itinerary.. I know it's a bit rushed but I only have a month to get around the UK. I'll probably be doing this part of the trip late May/earlyJune next year and will be spending 5 days in London beforehand. I was originally going to Sissinghurst first day first but I'll now make that a day trip from London. I have some tweaking to do yet but below is the broad outline. It's all about the landscape, the history and atmosphere. I'm not into shopping and dining but some antique/book shops or a museum/art gallery would keep me happy if the weather was inclement. Just so you know what I like to do.

London to Seaford to see the Seven Sisters. I'm only walking on the seafront up to the Head. I know it's a long way to go see some cliffs but I'd really love to do it.
Back to Arundel and then to Portsmouth for two nights. Day at the historic dockyard and about. Can't wait to see the ships and look out onto the Solent.
An early train to Dunbridge/Mottisfont to see the Abbey gardens. It should be a relaxing day. Will stay the night nearby.

Train to Weymouth/Isle of Portland (some of my mother's ancestors came from here and I'd like to see the castle/quarry/Chesil Beach. May have to stay 2 nights as this area is of great interest to me. My mother's maternal ancestors were marble & portland masons.

Onto Cornwall where I'll base myself somewhere in the Falmouth/Fowey area for 3 days to see Trebah Garden/ St Just Church in Roseland and whatever else I can fit into those 3 days. I'd love to see Tintagel/ Port Isaac but it will be too rushed. If I can squeeze another day in I will probably arrange a day tour to see that part of Cornwall.

I'll be going onto Bath & the Cotswolds for 3/4 nights and will then take a train from Oxford to Chester but that's for another post.

Thank you for reading this.

I should have mentioned I'll hire a car if necessary to get about but would prefer to use the train for longer journeys and to avoid parking hassles. I'm also happy to use the local buses to get about if convenient or even a taxi. In Portsmouth I intend to stay at Southsea and won't need a car but will use a taxi if I have to. Not sure what to do for Cornwall leg but I don't mind long walks and that's the attraction. I could easily walk the coast track between Trebah and Falmouth one way for instance and would enjoy the walk. I can use the ferry in that area too I understand.
