Solo traveler walking from Shakespeares Globe at 11pm

Hello

After my friends from our SW England garden tour, leave England, I’m spending an extra night in London and planning to see an evening play at Shakespeare’s Globe in mid July. I’m looking at two hotels The premier Inn Tate Modern and a little boutique hotel called Vintry & Mercer tight across the Southwark Bridge. The walking distance is short from each about .4 mile. I’m just wondering how safe it is to just walk back to one of these hotels. I probably wouldn’t walk in downtown Seattle where I’m from. The Google map walking route looks fine.

Walking the pedestrian Thames path and nearby areas is very safe at night—-we have done that after a play at the Globe, as well as one farther upriver at the National Theatre. Lots of people out and about, enjoying the summer evening. If at the Vintry. & Mercer, I would probably use the Millennium Bridge to cross the Thames, as I dislike bridges with traffic like the Southwark Bridge.

I wouldn’t walk around Seattle alone at that time of night, either. But that part of London feels very safe to me.

Merely be aware of your surroundings.

Lots of people will be out and about and suspect other individuals who also attended the performance will be returning to the Premier Inn.

In 2021 attended a play in London and then around 10:30-11pm rode the Tube back to the Quadrant in Richmond. Was surprised how crowded the Tube was at that hour. I then walked from the Quadrant for 25 minutes back to my accommodation at the Richmond PI. Was a main road, well traveled and at no point did I feel unsafe. My age? Was born when Eisenhower was in office. You do the math.

Either accommodation would work. Make your choice based on what works for you and your budget.

Love London and in all my solo stays have never felt unsafe.

I saw a 11:59 pm play at the Globe last summer and I felt safe walking back to where I was staying—the Premier Inn a Bankside— after the show was done. With the theatre crowd there were lots of people about.

My only thought is that if the OP chooses to stay at Vintry & Mercer, walking back by Southwark Bridge is the most direct route. The bridge has wide pedestrian sidewalks then bike lanes that are separated from the roadway by physical cement barriers.

Walking back by Millennium Bridge is less direct. Crossing Southwark Bridge a pedestrian going to Vintry & Mercer will have to cross Upper Thames St to get to the hotel. But a pedestrian walking off Millennium Bridge is not easily going to intersect Upper Thames St. To get to Upper Thames St pedestrians have to navigate a less obvious foot path along Paul's Walk, Broken Wharf and hotel drop offs. If walking back by Millennium Bridge, continue to Queen Victoria St. Walk up Queen Victoria St to Mansion House tube station. At the tube station turn onto Garlic Hill and go a couple blocks to Vintry & Mercer.

Thank you all for very helpful and detailed information! I'm also planning a quick visit to the Tate Modern to see the Yoko Ono show and the google directions from the Vintry & Mercer hotel use the Millenium Bridge and then Queen Victoria St to the tube station route. Looks a bit easier and perfect. I got a very good rate at the Vintry & Mercer of UK365 vs UK279 for a Premier Plus room at the Premier Inn. I am spoiling myself for my last night in London. :)

Queen Victoria street comes with fast traffic. It is a main road, and the main feeder for Blackfriars bridge
