Soccer/Football in the park - London

Hello,

Travelling with a group of students to London in a few days. A bunch of the kids (all about 14 years old) would love to play soccer/football for a bit one afternoon. Stayed up late to rent one of the small fields, but nothing was available (that was a waste!!!!).

Anyways, if just find an open spot in say Hyde Park or Regents park with no one around, would we be allowed to play a little game of our own? Just didn't know if this was breaking any rules, or at least rules that are enforced.

I google it and it sounds like there’s open public pitches in the Hyde park for kick abouts just not for formal play. Hopefully someone has more info for you. You might also try contacting one of the clubs.

Thank you Margie - I found those as well. You need to make a "block Booking" of at least 4 consecutive weeks. Might be able to find an open one, just not sure.

You don't need to book anything in Hyde Park. There's lots of space. Enter by the Marble Arch / Park Lane gate and there's lots of wide open green space to play football.

Thank you Gerry - went on Google Maps to look at the spot (been a couple years since I went in through that Gate) and you can see kids playing football from the street view!

If this weather keeps up the park will be busy with people getting burnt to a crisp sunbathing, but it's a big place and you should still find some room.

Other large areas for a kickabout are Regents Park, Greenwich Park / Blackheath, Clapham Common; and my favourite Hampstead Heath / Parliament Hill.
