Skipton restaurants

Hello,

I'm doing some research on restaurants for dinners in Skipton. I have done a search of the forum and not come up with anything. We are foodies but not looking for Michelin stars or fancy. Mostly looking for quality, traditional or new British. Vegetarian options are a plus but not required. Where have you eaten in Skipton that you enjoyed? What Skipton restaurant have you heard raves about?

Thanks so much!

Hi Katie -

I live not far from Skipton but while there are several eating places there, I’m afraid I’m no expert on any of them. Best I can do is pass on my friends’ hearty recommendation of dining at The Wooly Sheep, situated near the bottom of the High Street.

I’m guessing that you are not going to have a car so are reliant on public transport, or taxi. There is The Angel at Hetton not too far away only accessible by taxi I’d guess, which is definitely a ‘foodie’ place and there is the upmarket Devonshire Arms near Bolton Abbey, again a taxi ride away. Another swishy foodie restaurant, The Box Tree, is situated at Ilkley about thirty minutes drive from Skipton and a little further afield, beyond Ilkley, there’s The Penny Bun at the tiny hamlet of Askwith. This latter I have been to and can also heartily recommend. All require advance booking.

Otherwise I’m afraid it’s scoping out the local eateries and going with your gut feel, but caveat emptor! Obviously if I can be of any further assistance please feel free to get in touch either here or by direct message.

Hi Ian,

Thanks so much. True, we will be using public transportation or taxi. I will definitely check out the Wooly Sheep. We plan to have lunch or tea at the Devonshire Arms when we are visiting Bolton Abbey. If we need to go farther afield for dinner, I will check out your other suggestions like the Angel or the Box Tree. Thanks again.

Hi Katie -

My chums finally made it to their new home in Skipton (conveyancing in the U.K. can been a long winded, frustrating and arcane thing) and have been exploring (some of the time with us!). However today, they’ve been ‘flying solo’ but picked up a couple of leaflets from Skipton library, situated on the High Street, one of which is a ‘restaurant trail’ leaflet (and I’m sure the good folk in the library will be glad to wax lyrical about their favourites if asked) and another is a ‘pub trail’ leaflet. Both focus on the town centre which is eminently walkable. As I pointed out to them you just have to be cautious on the pub one that the description of ‘lively’ isn’t a euphemism for ‘rough as old boots’ or ‘fighting in big heaps’! Worth picking up once you arrive, assuming you’ve not already been and gone!

Ian,

Thanks so much for thinking of me! We have not been yet. We going in April and we will definitely pick up those leaflets when we get there. Thanks again.
