Hi - we are hoping to go to Sissinghurst and have two National Rail questions.
Ir seems you need to buy tickets in advance to get the best prices. Does this have to be done online or can advance tickets be purchased at a train station?
Can the Oyster card be used or would that charge at the higher rate?
Thank you.
It's a commuter route so no Advance tickets, just buy on the day at the station.
Oyster is no use as it's outside London.
Staplehurst Station is about 5 miles from Sissinghurst, so catch a taxi at the station. The bus service is too erratic.
Buy rail tickets on the day as there are no advance discounted tickets, but travel is cheaper after 9.30am. Oystercards are valid for London Transport stations, not provincial stations.
Thank you both for your help.
The rail site was not helpful as it gives the impression you can buy in advance, which you can to other locations - so good to know!
Thanks again!
You can buy in advance, any ticket in the country, if you wish. There is no advantage to buying in advance in this case because there are no Advance fares. Note the capital letter, or absence thereof. When the government decided to make "everything" about British train tickets "simpler" some bright bulb decided to name the tickets which are cheaper and capacity controlled and must be bought before date of travel, Advance.
Didn't consider that they would further confuse people unfamiliar with train tickets.
