SIM specifics

Planning to head to a Carphone Warehouse near the airport after we land for a SIM card, and here's what I've found.

SIM

I want maximum data, ability to hotspot to our iPad and usability in France too. From what I see the EE 5Gb card for 15 pounds seems like my best bet.

Yay, nay, differing opiinions?

I’ve used EE pay as you go SIM plans on several trips. EE has great network coverage and had a good signal even in rural areas.

In France EE uses the Orange network for roaming.(Orange has arguably the best coverage country-wide in France.). So you’ll be in good hands there.

The £15 plan you mention looks like the best of Car Warehouse’s choices. Be sure CW sets up your EE account so you can top up if needed.

Giffgaff have an offer on.
40 GB for £20.
You can tether it all in the UK, I think it's 3g after the first 9GBs..but that's an awful lot of data to burn through
Carphone likely have giffgaff Sims so get them to check if tethering is still fine in France.

We have used EE service several times and always happy with the results and price. Works well throughout Europe although have not tried it in Switzerland yet (will do so this autumn). Very helpful staff.

If it is the same price - fine - but don't count on getting 5G in very many places. 4G is pretty much everywhere with 3G picking up the slack in rural areas. Or sometimes no G's at all like when I was recently in Norfolk.
