Shows in London - kids 14 and 12

Headed to London to visit sister and will be staying with her in kensington area.

Would like to take in a show with the kids. Any suggestions? There late July/early August.

Also any other 'must dos' with teenager/tween greatly appreciated! But lots of great forums with recos from what I can tell.

There are literally hundreds of stage performances that you could choose from. Including the usual Disney musicals. Here's just one list (you can Google London stage shows for others) https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/whats-on

As for other things that might appeal to tweens/teens - the Harry Potter Studio tour, the London Eye, the Science Museum (if they want to get their inner geek on), the Tower of London, the British Museum. A lot depends on what the kids are interested in.

I would highly recommend The Lion King, it's a fabulous show.

What about Wicked? I am going to that in August in London and everyone has told me it is wonderful!

I agree: "The Lion King". Saw it with my Grandchildren when they were 12, 10 and 8 and their parents who are um..older. We all loved it. Also agree "Wicked" is wonderful but I thought maybe more for older teens. On the whole, I'd go with "The Lion King" a stunningly visual experience. Maybe you can see both? Some other fun things we did included a London Walks Harry Potter walk, a visit (via boat then a walk under the Thames to the London side and DLR) to Greenwich, the Science Museum, the London Eye, a ride on the double deckers, specific parts of the British Museum and the Natural History Museum, Hyde Park boats and a quick visit to see the Peter Pan statue. We also let them each choose something from Harrods food court to add to our picnic in the Park across the street. All of my Grandchildren have been to and loved London. I think it's one of the greatest cities in the world for kids to visit. And adults......

It depends on what kinds of shows your group likes. Our group prefers (for the most part) mysteries or farces in smaller theaters; we've enjoyed pretty much every one we've been to. Also, Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap" has been playing since I was 14 years old, and yes we did get to take our kids to it.

Our teens and tweens liked pretty much what we did; the National Gallery, Cabinet War Rooms (excellent), British Museum, Tate Modern, Tower of London. Sir John Soane's house is a little creepy and very intriguing.

Look at LondonWalks; I've liked every walk I've ever taken with them. When our son was 10 and very much into spies, we did their "Spies and Spymasters" walk, which covered both Kim Philby and James Bond (and Ian Fleming); years before that, right after I graduated from law school, I very much enjoyed their walk through the Inns of Court.

If you want to partake of an English afternoon tea, without a high price (or if some people in your group don't want to have tea), go to Richoux, a chain with several locations in London. You can get afternoon tea or other food.

Hi jacxfamily,

In addition to shows you were wondering about things to do with kids.

I don't know if these are "must-do" but I think kids of any age would like a boat ride on the Thames.

Also you can go up the tower at the Tate Modern (free) and the view is wonderful and scary enough to be memorable.

Harry Potter fans like Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross Station, if you're over that way.

Hope you have a wonderful time!

Cheers,

Jill
