Shorts - London,Paris,Stockholm,St. Petersburg

Will be traveling to Above locations in July -August of 2020. 3 days London and Paris - then cruise out of Stockholm for 12 days...! Question is do the locals wear shorts or do they generally wear long pants at that time of the year? Having done Italy, France and Greece in October of 2017 most people wore long pants, especially in Italy. Looking to be more Comfortable than Fashionable....! Thanks in advance for any responses..!

I’ll speak only to London and yes. If the weather warrants it, they will. I have friends there and I’ve seen them in shorts on social media. It’ll really depend on the weather, it could be warm in July/August or not. I was in London during May a couple of years ago, it was 28 degrees C and saw lots of shorts.

It might not be common, but it is not a taboo.
Accept it, with or without shorts you will look like a tourist, as will thousands of others.
July and August are a lot hotter than October.

Wear whatever you want. Nobody cares what you wear, anywhere - really, nobody.
Only exceptions would be in churches where you should have shoulders and knees covered out of respect.

Everyone will know you are a tourist, and always will. You can't hide that fact nor should you waste any effort trying to do so. You'll be surrounded by countless other tourists, all wearing whatever they feel like.

Dress however you feel like dressing, and cross this off your list of things to worry about.

If you want to look like you are attending the Masters golf tournament go for it. Don’t forget the baseball cap and trainers ( athletic shoes).

Also just because it’s Summer doesn’t mean there will be hot weather.

While I was in the Navy I lived in Italy from 67-69, I have a good feel Europe - but mainly the Mediterranean Sea area....! I will not dress for the Masters golf, ball caps are definitely out along with the training shoes, I know that much..! And I realize no matter what I do they know I am a Tourist, But I appreciate your help...! Thanks a million...!

If it's August I'm in shorts unless I'm going out somewhere for the evening with the exception being my local pub. London? Yes I'll be in shorts as will many others, same with Paris and the same with Stockholm.

The point is, and has already been raised, no-one cares. No-one is ging to look at you in shorts and be bemused and even if they were, so what? I've received quizical stares from people in Barcelona and Sorrento when I've worn shorts in February but both times were 18°c which is certainly above starting temperature for shorts for me (I just find them more comfortable) but I paid little attention, they don't know me, I don't know them, they my have a little chuckle at their perceived absurdity, I'll just carry on with my day in the comfort of my shorts.

Also a retired cop but not sure of the relevance of former law enforcement and shorts! ; )

In Paris, if it’s hot, yes. Women are likely to wear dresses, too, if it’s hot. Athletic shoes have spread to Paris, though to be stylish Parisians prefer the flat Vans style on the street instead of the thick-soled athletic shoes.
