We will be finishing a 3 week trip (Madrid, Israel, Paris) and leaving out of London Gatwick in July. We will have 11 people half older teenagers (17-19) the others their parents. We will be coming in on the train on Thursday and leaving on Sunday. Most of the group has been to London before so this is just a quick trip to get an overall feel for those that haven't been. One thought is to stay in an apartment in Westminister Borough for 2 nights (arrive on thursday hang around in the evening maybe river cruise, then walk all over on Friday and then leave on Saturday to stay near Gatwick (Horely). Two of the teenagers will head back to Paris on Saturday so won't be with us near Horley. When I looked up places to stay it seems Horley has some cute B & B's and the two teenage girls would miss the cute town (it seems cute is it really?). Maybe we should just stay in Horley the whole time and do a day trip into London on Friday? Hope that makes sense. I believe that London Pride Parade is also happening on that Saturday/Sunday so I imagine things will be super busy and tons of people and revelry. Any advice /suggestions?
Stay away from the pride parade route. Nearly 4 years ago we did not know that it was going on. We nearly got crushed going to the national gallery. Also lots of drunks in the area.
Trains from Europe arrive at St Pancras International. There is also a train line from St Pancras International to Gatwick Airport, so a hotel around that station would be ideal for both your arrival and departure. London is big. Small parts of London will be super busy with the Pride parade, but it is easy to google a map of the parade route and find other areas to go to on that day. Maybe spend Friday in the centre and Saturday in an outer area such as Camden Market or Greenwich.
