Been visiting London since 1972. and As I’ve often said, “ Always changing, always the same.”

If you could provide a bit more intel returning you likes and dislikes some of us forum members might be able to advise “ things to do and not to do!”

As far as accomodations…what’s your budget?

Thanks for the replies, I am looking for a place that is close to the Underground and is centrally located allowing me to walk to as many sights as I can (live to walk). As for budget, I was hoping to stay below 2.5 K USD if possible for 5 nights.

I've stayed twice at the Premier Inn County Hall and found the location to be excellent. It is near several tube stops and a lot of sites are walkable from there.

But it sounds like you want a place that is a little more spiffy. Premier Inns are pretty basic, but clean and affordable.

Over decades have stayed here on London sojourns. 15 minute walk at most from Paddington Station. Good price for London. 1/2 block from Lancaster Gate Underground Station. Bus top across the road. Entrance in to Hyde Park across the road. Gate opens at 5am. Coffee spot there by the Serpentine. Easy stroll from there to Kensington Palace. A favorite restaurant
( which now needs reservations) Tudkin Flavors of Malaysia is a quick stroll. The Mitre pub is a 5minute walk. Mid day you can have a quiet meal and pint. Further walk is another enjoyable pub is the Victoria Paddington. Sheila’s cafe across from The Mitre does a great breakfast.

Otherwise peruse the Premier Inn website. Lots of folks seem to like the PI at County Hall. You view when you walk outside is Westminster Bridge and the Parliament Building across the Thames .

Great city. Research its history and decide where to go based on your interests. Remember all museums are free.

With that budget, I’d consider a deluxe room at The Bloomsbury, which is a short walk to theatres and the British Museum. The closest tube station, Tottenham Court Road, is served by three lines. In this price range, I’d look at booking.com and filter for hotels rated 9.0 or higher. You may prefer to be closer to different sights.

You can stay anywhere in London get on the tube to somewhere and then walk. With your budget, I would consider the Pelham, Baileys, Strand Palace, Royal Horseguards, Park Plaza County Hall or Westminster.

I second the suggestion for the Bloomsbury. I stayed there last year on a special deal and enjoyed it very much. Lovely room, good breakfast, attentive staff, and great location.

I second the recommendation for the Sanctuary House Hotel. I’ve stayed there the last two years and will be returning for a third time later this year.

For me, it’s the perfect location. Easy walk to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben & Houses of Parliament, the Thames River, Buckingham Palace, Horse Guards Parade, Trafalgar Square, National Gallery, Churchill War Rooms, and St. James’s Park to name a few.

It’s a 1-2 minute walk to St. James’s Park tube station. Use the Broadway street entrance and exit.

Sure, you can take the tube to most places in London. But I prefer to step outside my hotel and be able to walk to places. Plus, the tube can be crowded.

With your budget, there are loads of choices.

I stayed at The Bailey's Hotel in South Kensington last spring and really enjoyed it. It's not central, but a great location opposite the Gloucester Road Station on the super convenient Piccadilly, Circle and District Lines. It's within walking distance of Kensington Gardens and the V & A Museum.
