I am going to York for a choir festival late May, and wondered if anyone have small tips to what I need to see in York, maybe something that is not of the biggest sights there.
I know we are doing the ghost walk and will
Hi
I expect you already know that the main place to see in York is its wonderful Minster, and the general medieval street layout. However on the edge of the city (walking distance) is the UK's largest railway (train) museum - National Railway Museum. Obviously an acquired taste if you are not into transport history, but if you are, it's a 'must-visit'.
If you have the time and inclination, about 20 miles out of town, next to the town of Malton, is a genuine WW2 prison camp that has been turned into an interesting museum - Eden Camp. Again, an acquired taste, but also one to consider.
There is a a beautiful park at the edge of town. It is the typical English Garden. Just beautiful.
The railway museum might convert you and it's free! See also ideas at http://www.ricksteves.com/europe/england/york.
