Shoes for best of england

We are doing the best of England tour later this month. Just doing carryon and a backpack. Wearing the sturdy tennis shoes on the plane. Should I bring another pair of tennis shoes to put in carryon or a pair of sandals?

I always take a second pair of walking shoes, as nothing worse than your tried and tested shoes starting to hurt your feet. I bring a pair of ballet flats as well, nice to slip on for the evening or if going out.

I would bring an extra pair. There are a couple of walking opportunities where they might end up damp-ish and it would be good to change.

I took 1 pr to Italy last Fall but I knew I would not be walking in wet grass. It was fine but this trip I’m back to a pair and a spare.

I always pack in a carryon only and I always bring two pairs of shoes (1 to wear on the plane, 1 packed). I like being able to rotate to give my feet a break.

Recently, Birkenstocks have become my go-to second pair for spring/summer travel. The Birkenstock Arizona sandals are waterproof, comfortable, and slightly dressy (certainly dressy enough for anywhere we go). I took them to Italy last summer, where we walked between 5-10 miles a day. No blisters whatsoever.

Cindy, I thought about you this morning! I’m currently on a small group tour with former RS guide Mark Seymour. He got us to Fountains Abbey right at 10 when it opened. When we got down to the ruins there was still a lot of dew (and I suspect leftover wetness from thunderstorms last night). I have on leather (or leather-ish) athletic shoes which got damp but not soaked and were fine in an hour. The fabric ones might not have dried as quickly. They are not waterproof but the leathery last is keeping them from becoming wet through and through.
