sheep herding tours in England

My daughter and family are looking for a sheep herding tour that can be accessed from London within a two-hour train ride. Can you suggest any?

Hi -

While not exactly the type of sheep dog tour a la Rick Steves tours, the link below lists the sheep dog trials in England, similar to those featured in Rick’s English Lakeland videos. These are competitive events pitching one shepherd’s dogs against others, so a full day/afternoon if you wanted. I think it will be most unlikely for you to be able to pet any of these dogs as they are specific working animals.

Here’s the link: https://www.isds.org.uk/trials/trials-diary/england/

Hope this helps!

You get sheep dog trials where there are sheep, which means more rural places and therefore not anywhere near London or the crowded south east of England (or for that matter a train station). On the list above, Romney Marsh in Kent is the closest to London, but depending on your dates, you may or may not be lucky with an event happening. You will be stood quite a way from the action.

You don’t tend to get many sheep dog demonstrations, as they are working dogs and farmers don’t have the time for tourist activities.

There are sheep dog trials near stations
The first on the list on the first link is within a mile of Gargrave station and there is also a Premier Inn nearby
More than three hours by train from London though
