Shakespeare's Globe Theatre summer schedule is up

Find it on their website:

We will be in London in late May and will probably choose the Merry Wives of Windsor over Henry IV.

What's your pick?

"Here will be an old abusing of God's patience and the King's English."
(Mistress Quickly, Act 1 Scene 4, Merry Wives of Windsor)

You can't go wrong, either of course would be a good choice.

Lola, thanks for posting this! I am always interested in what each new season will bring.
I think I would choose "The Merry Wives of Windsor".

Be sure to check out the theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon, too, if you are ever there.

We are pretty much decided on Merry Wives of Windsor. We love the comedies. The last time there we saw Midsummer Night’s Dream with cabaret actress Meow Meow playing both Titania and Hippolyta, and she was fantastic. The whole play was fantastic.

Does anyone have thoughts about the seats in the last row of the middle tier? It seems one can get some back support from the wall if needed. Last time we were in Row 2 of the middle tier, and I was grateful for a chance to stand and stretch at intermission.

Rebecca, Stratford-upon-Avon is not on the plan for this trip, but I would like to get there sometime on a Sunday when they are doing backstage tours. We always enjoy those. (National Theatre backstage tour was great).

Thanks for posting. I was constantly looking for this over the holidays and then forgot once I got back to work. I would do Merry Wives myself.

Not sure if and when I will get to the Globe this summer. I might be tempted to see Dream. I purchased the 2016 Dream (Emma Rice production) in DVD for a Christmas present to myself. It was one of the best things I have ever seen - in person. Glad to have the DVD for backup. Not sure if I would be happy to see another version so soon.

Such dilemmas!

That 2016 production is the one I saw, with Meow Meow. They sell the DVD on the Globe website. We watched it online, but it wasn’the same as seeing it in person.

Every performance is a bit different, with impromptu bits. Did they add some David Bowie tribute material to the performance you saw?

Re 2016 Dream production: yes, David Bowie and Beyonce, too. Beyonce is not on my DVD though the clip is on YouTube. I had forgotten about David Bowie. I certainly preferred the live performance especially since it was a matinee, and I did not have to bother with the lights that proved too controversial for Emma Rice.
