Getting ready for our 10th RS tour. I could use some restaurant recommendations
for free time and dinner in:
Salisbury
Mawgan Porth, Newquay
If you are on this tour Shoot me a PM.
I'll be on the Sept. 7th tour also (my 9th RS tour) but I've never been to Mawgan Porth, so I'm doing research also. If anyone has recommendations, I'd love to hear them!
If you're intersted in pubs (for dinner or just drinks), I really like this one in Salisbury- it's also considered to be extremely haunted: http://haunchpub.co.uk/
The best restaurant in Mawgan Porth is probably at the Scarlet Hotel. It's a high end adults only hotel so it won't be cheap. In addition I see a lot of good reviews for Catch Seafood Bar as well, although I haven't been myself.
In Newquay Adam Handling's Ugly Butterfly in the Headland Hotel is the best in town - it has a Michelin star. The Fish House on Fistral Beach is also terrific, but if you want to go there you need to book now. A bit easier to get in is Counter Culture, a Basque restaurant famous for it's Basque cheesecake.
You should be aware that these days Mawgan Porth is often referred to as Hollywood on Sea due to the number of celebrities that have homes in the area - Cate Blanchett, Chris Martin, Jason Statham and others. I can vouch for the latter as a taxi driver told me when we were down in Newquay last week that his son, who is a lifeguard saw Jason on his beach recently.
I can second Cat VH in recommendation for Haunch of Venison restaurant in Salisbury. I didn’t have venison, beef cheeks I think, but it was very good.
