Self Guided Walking in England

My husband and I completed a lovely circular route in the picture perfect Cotswolds in June. We started and ended the 50 miles route in Moreton-In-Marsh. This town is easily served by rail from Paddington Station in London. This was our 8th self guided walk and perhaps the best. We’ve used several companies to organize walks and also done the planning ourselves. Cotswold Walks supplied maps and descriptive directions that were excellent. They organized great lodging and transported our luggage to each hotel where it was waiting for us at our next overnight stay. The addition of GPS routes with Ride available on my phone made following the walk that much easier.
The various B&Bs and hotels were great. My favorite was Russell’s on Broadway. Absolutely fabulous! Also excellent was the Manor House in Moreton-In-Marsh.

How far did you walk each day? I’ve thought about doing something like this for years.

We are considering the C2C walk in May. As you have experience with other tour operators, might you or other participants on the forum chat have recommendations on how who to use? We are thinking to be on the trail for 2 weeks. Thank you!!

We did the coast to coast (St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay) in England but did not use a self-guided service. We were novices and didn’t know that there are many good service providers. We’ve learned our lesson and always use one of the companies that book lodging, provide maps, and transport your bag each day.
I can recommend Walkers Britain for your planned journey. Enjoy the trail. It is amazing!!

Julie, there are a number of well-regarded companies what will set up a self-guided walk on the Coast to Coast trail for you. The ones either we or friends have used are Celtic Trails (for Wales, not the C2C walk), Macs Adventures, and Contours.

Most will customize it to the length you want.
