Hello everyone,
I'm in the initial planning phase for a more extensive UK trip this summer, flying into Gatwick. While I'm an advocate for public transport for city-to-city travel, the first leg of my journey involves getting to a rural part of Cornwall (substitute: Lake District, Peak District, etc.) with bulky walking gear. A train/bus combination with multiple changes feels daunting after an overnight flight.
I'm looking for experiences with pre-booking a long-distance taxi or private hire for this kind of transfer. I've found a company called Apple Taxis Gatwick that services Gatwick and mentions long journeys. The idea of a "comfortable and reliable long-distance taxi from Gatwick" is very appealing for a 4-5 hour drive.
Their system seems to allow you to "pre-book a premium long-route transfer from Gatwick" with a fixed fare, which is essential for budgeting a journey of this length.
My main questions are:
Has anyone used a taxi service for a similarly long transfer in the UK?
Any specific experiences with Apple Taxis or other firms for multi-hour journeys?
Was the fixed fare honored, and were the vehicles comfortable for a long haul?
I'd be grateful for any insights or alternative suggestions this well-traveled community can offer. Thank you!
